I'm looking for a good capo and strap for my ukulele.
I was wondering if people could recommend any.
As for capos, I went to guitar center and they sold me this one (it was all they had in stock that would fit a uke): http://www.guitarcenter.com/Shubb/Lightweight-Aluminum-Capo-for-Banjo.gc

I really don't like it, so I'm going to return it. I just read the Got a Ukulele blog entry on capos, but I'd like other opinions on which capo type works best.

As for straps I know there are the uke leashes, mobius straps, the kind that hook to a sound hole and the kind that needs a button. My uke has a pickup, so I guess that would work as a button (if I'm wrong please let me know!)? I don't think I'd like the uke leash and I don't really like how most of the mobius straps look, but like the other two types. I guess I'm being kind of picky in thinking about how it will look as well as it's functionality. So far I've really only looked at Etsy to try to find something unique, but didn't like anything they had.

If anybody has recommendations in the way of where I could find a nice strap and where to look for a good capo and what type to get, I'd appreciate the advice!

Thanks :)

This is the capo I use. I like it very much:

After trying every type of strap,EVERY TYPE! I have found great happiness with a Lakota Leathers 2" guitar strap.
No plastic, no metal. All soft leather.

I bought a seconds on ebay and saved 30%.

Awesome! Thanks so much for your recommendations! :D

I have a similar Shubb capo for my banjo that fits my ukuleles, but my experience with capos, over many years playing acoustic guitar and more recently a variety of other instruments, is that they can all get in the way to a degree. The most inconspicuous and least inconvenient (for playing) I've found is Dunlop's elasticated type https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jim-Dunlop...476256403&sr=8-6&keywords=guitar+elastic+capo ... little more than a length of strong elastic and a blunt nail ;) but it works very well, even if it does take a few more seconds to fit/remove/change position than the clamp-type ... the elastic does eventually perish so'll you'll need to buy a new one every few years :(

As for straps, on all my ukuleles I use a length of decorative 8mm cord, from the haberdasherie shop, as used for curtain tie-backs, dressing gowns etc. with a whipped or spliced loop on the strap button and simple buckle adjuster (from a handbag or similar) at the headstock.

Ha ha, I have a capo, but I don't ever use it so I never know where it is. The other day I was jamming and wanted to try something so I had to improvise. I put a pencil across the strings and wrapped a big thick rubber band around the back of the neck. My friends were impressed. Not recommending it though, but it worked. Well, the capo worked, what I was trying to do didn't work. But I really should find my capo.

I have a Shrub (sp)for my ukuleles and guitar but rarely use them. Where do you put them that you can just pick it up when someone has a capo on and you want to play along? Because they screw to fit the fretboard I can't store them on the headstock like I've seen others do. (For me it was easier to learn to play in all keys than figure out where to store the capo)

I rarely use my capos, and I do like the Shub Lite for ukes. I found that using a capo on the uke works OK for the first 3 frets, and then I think the tone suffers.
I have a Uke Leash Guitar Style Strap that has a larger keyhole for the amp/button combination. It is offered in leather or leather end/ polypro strap. I don't think I have seen anyone else that offers the larger keyhole, which works great on my MiFi. It has a 0.4 inch diameter hole, but I can make it any size you need if you let me know. Not all amped ukes have the jack/button combo, so look carefully to see if it has enough of a lip to accommodate a strap. See links in signature.

I am new to the ukulele and I felt the need to use a strap when playing ukulele. I have installed strap buttons on my ukes if they did not already have. I played the mandolin in another lifetime, and luckily I had a few really nice Levy's adjustable straps laying around. The ones I have are at least 20 years old, and they measure about 1 5/8". I couldn't find any models online that are this size, but the ones I have are very similar to a 2" model I found online:

Comfort is very important if you are playing for extended periods of time. Good luck finding something that fits your personal needs.
