One of my future UAS fixes will be a Flea but not just any old Flea, it will have a concert neck and rosewood fretboard. Having trouble deciding between the Hoop pine laminate top with pineapple graphics (being the pineapple lover that I am), and the solid Koa top. Anyone here own a Koa top Flea? Does the Koa top Flea sound that much better to justify the additional cost? MAHALO.

I have the concert pineapple and I love it. :D I say go for the pineapple Flea because it's cheaper than the koa. That way, you'll have more left over to put towards one of them MP pineapple baritones. ;)

I've played a Koa top Fluke. It's nice! Nicer than the regular the Flukes but for the price, it had bettter be.

They have a mahogany flea too, yes? I think I've heard it and liked it. But I'm old and you shouldn't believe anything I say. :p

Well that would be easy if you didn't say a lot, but since you became post whore it is getting a bit hard to ignore you... LOL :)

If you really want something that's not just any old Flea, consider a custom top. All you have to do is provide the wood for the top...there are plenty of options on eBay. (I picked up a piece of sinker redwood for $30 that is being made into a custom Flea as I type.) As of this post the cost is only $25 more than a regular koa Flea plus the cost of the wood. (FMM actually charges $25 less than the cost of koa Flea but you have to pay $50 to get the wood thicknessed properly.)

Here's the inspiration for mine:

That's a GREAT idea, I have a stash of native hardwoods collected over the years, Milo, Kou, Kamani, even Koa from my father's backyard making it a unique ukulele priceless and sentimental, and an affordable custom.

Mike DaSilva does the thicknessing so call him to find out what he needs...you can get his number from his web site at http://www.ukemaker.com. Talk to Dale at FMM for the rest of the details.
