I really want to learn Dragon by Jake. I absolutely love this song. Its just so relaxing and mellow. But yeah if anyone knows this song, please help me out here! Anything will do, just something to get me started you know.

hey

i dont have tabs made for the song but i recomment watch the videos on youtube a lot..thats how i eventually learned the whole song..
but to get you started, heres the main melody...

A-----2-----------
E-----0-----------
C-----4-----------
g-----0-----------

its hard to actually transcribe the hammer-on part so i would watch the videos on youtube...but you hold the above chord and use your right hand index finger to hammer on the fifth fret, let go, hammer on and then pluck the open g string twice, then hammer on the 10th fret, then 9th fret, then 5th fret...
this may sound really confusing but be sure to watch the videos! there are plenty of them!
ask you if you have any further questions or email Dominator, he's really good at explaining in further detail.

actually its (A)2 (E)2 (C)4 (G)0 not (A)2 (E)0 (C)4 (G)0

i can play the song up to all the hammer ons chorus part, cant play it that well.

but i know for a fact that you strum it.

yea..

both 2040 and 2240 work, they both sound good to me..its up to you...

correction! instead of hammer on the fifth fret, its actually the seventh fret...my bad..

so the chord structure goes something like this:

2040 (2240) x2
2200 x2
2222 x2
2200 x1
2222 x1
2240 x1

that repeats ...then jake goes to
7300
5200
(10)(12)0)(0)
(9)(10)(0)(0)
5700
2222 (up-strum)

then....

7300
7222
5222
2040
2060
2200
2222
2040

hope this helps!!

Guys, you may actually be playing it correctly but the translation in the chords symbols are misleading (at least for me). As an example the 2200 chord should really be the other way around = 0022 = strings = GCEA.

Jake chose an entirley different tonal center for his live performances of dragon versus what he recorded on the Dragon CD. For the CD he uses these chords for the main melody.
Em= 0402
Gadd11= 0032
D= 2225

For the live stuff he uses:
Esus2= 0422
Gmaj11= 0022
D6= 2222

Very little differences in placement of fingers etc. but to my ear a significant difference in the tonal mood of the changes (if that makes sense). At first I had trouble coming to grips with the live version because it sounded off to me but after a while it sort of grew on me.

I have transcribed the solo version (based off the Bellyup Tavern video) and maybe I can share bits of it here. I just don't want to have entire tabs posted on the Internet.

Hopefully, this will clear up any confusion regarding the tapping, hammers and pull offs for the main melody.

dominator, you dominate.
thanks.

Im not like most musicians. I need a tutorial for almost anything that I play. I cant just read tabs and be able to play it. I dont know why. Im just not that kind of learner. If someone could make a tutorial for it on youtube or something, i would (as I am sure others) be most pleased. :)

omagosh!! Jake makes it sound like the hardest song in the world, but it was pretty easy to figure out.
