I'm working on Jake's "Piano Forte". It's slow going, though, as I'm waiting for money to afford a smaller uke (so I don't have to stretch my hands as much).

I learned a song by a local artist by ear, and am going to perform it at an open mic she hosts on May 9th. Working on a Blink 182 medley and Aldrine's "Ukulele" for the same open mic.

I'll be putting the finishing touches on a multitrack for the reggae contest tomorrow night. It's the theme from the Secret of Monkey Island. I've been messing around with a few other ideas in my head, and soon after I'll probably try to record:

Smoke Two Joints by The Toyes (also for the reggae contest if I can get it done in time)
Born To Be Wild (with lots of riding footage-- I have it all planned out in my head. I was totally inspired by the Outdoor Adventure contest)
Shreds of Boa and Jennifer's Jacket by the Presidents-- as songs I can play uke for and convince my wife to do the singing (that's her favorite band).

1. Almost done first draft of "Wild Boars" song for 2000's contest, and I'm a lot happier with it than I thought I'd be.
2. Arranging the Guy Noir theme.
3. "Merry-Go-Round of Life," which I've been working on for months now, because I love that song... It would probably help if I remembered to print it.

If I finish one of these, I'll be lucky.

The Lyle Ritz solo arrangement of 'Beautiful Dreamer' by Stephen Foster (1864)
It's a real finger streatcher, but I've just about got it

and 'I'm in the mood for love' by Jimmy McHugh & Dorothy Fields (1935), which I know mainly from the Lord Tanamo Ska version (1965).

Have you listened to Makana's version of "Ahe Lau Makani" (Track 13, Ki Ho'Alu - Journey of Hawaiian Slack Key)? BTW, I still can't get that oli from Kupa`aina . . . too fast for me.

i'll check for it. truthfully, i've never been fond of makana so i've shied away from his music. by no means am i saying he doesn't have talent tho, the few things i've heard is really good, but there's something i don't like about him.

after kevin (chang from kupa`aina) emailed me the chords, i've tried to transcribe the lyrics. easy enough, but kalama's part is incredible. i'll give it a second shot again when i get home so i can listen to a clearer version of the song. kalama cabigon is a pretty insane spoken word artist and chanter.

I'm adding to my list a bit.

I decided to give time to Dom's tab of Classical Gas, after tuning my copy of the Powertab file to DGBE in order to play it on my baritone.

I've also got three other tunes I'm working out in the background: instrumentals of "Hare Hare Yukai", "New School Term" (background music from the Azumanga Daioh OST), and "Fake Wings" (from the .hack//SIGN OST).

His playing is excellent from a technical perspective but it's missing the aloha.
