View Full Version : Replacing Tuning Machines

I have a lower-end soprano ukulele (Mitchell MU40) with geared tuners.

Two of the tuners are really rough and I would like to replace them.

I'm wondering if this is a straightforward project or not? I was looking at Grover tuners from StewMac (and open to suggestions that won't break the bank).

Sadly, I contacted Mitchell to see if I could get new tuners and they told me to return the instrument for an exchange. I didn't want to do that since I already did some set-up work on it, and added new strings. It plays quite well and I really don't want to give it up. I'd rather add better tuners.

Thanks!

I have a few sets of grover 9GBs I don't use anymore. If you think they'll fit I'll send you a seat, no charge. Or if anyone else wants them I'd like to pass them on.

Those Grovers are nice. Very smooth and stable.

A very kind gesture. Kudos to you.
