So, I recently joined up with my local uke club--the Quad Cities Ukulele Club in Moline, IL (I live a ways away, but it's worth the trip)--and went to last Saturday's meeting/session. The second one I've been to. Like I told them the first time, any more fun, it'd be illegal!

Any-hoozle, I have just finished building my first homemade uke. Body: cookie tin. Neck: piece of 1x2 poplar. Frets: bobby pins. Strings: Aquila nylgut tenor. I took it for its maiden voyage during the session, and doggone if it didn't fit in just fine! I decided to use a light pick, because it's not very loud.

My next build I'll fix some problems, like drilling the holes for the tuning keys properly, and so on. But it was a lot of fun to build, and it plays pretty decent!

I like it.

That's just great! thank you for sharing!

So resourceful! Very clever. Very cool. We can get caught up in having the best instrument. It's nice to see someone just having fun and making music.
