It's a small world (little ukes)! Famine to feast here...1 month into ukeing, and my initial shock at the small size of a soprano has turned into 3 of them in da house! 50's Kamaka Gold Label, Outdoors v1 and the newly arrived all-solid Kala KA-ASOV-S (spruce/ovangkol). Did a quick & dirty sound comparison into my phone, please excuse my newb playing. The new solid Kala has great volume, and complex overtones, compared to my Kamaka, which has more bass & Mids. I expect the Kala to sound better after a bunch of playing, but what strings might tame the brights a bit, and provide a richer tone?

Did you mean to attach a sound sample? You mention one, but I don't see any way to get to it.

As for strings to try: Worth brown, D'addario Nyltech, LaBella pro series..... Actually, if it comes with those really bright Aquila Nylgut strings, about anything else should warm it up a bit.
That said, maybe you'll actually grow to appreciate the brighter sound as something different from your other ukes...the spruce top is going to contribute a lot to that different sound I'd say.
I hope you enjoy the new uke. I saw your other thread on it and what a great deal!

I tried to listen to the sound sample, but got "Request Access" after clicking on yourp link. I didn't know what that meant so I didn't click on it.

The link wants us to ask permission from you to access the file.

Maybe you need to change the settings for the link.

Sorry, new to the Dropbox thing too, had to change the settings, with no link expiration.

Number 2 certainly sounds brighter than number 1.
