How big is the ukulele market?

Still new to ukes. I have been playing about a year.
Not sure why I thought of this, but just how big is the Ukulele market?

I know there are many ukulele manufacturers and they have to sell enough to make a profit.

There are many string manufacturers so they must be selling enough to stay afloat?

Any ideas on how big the market is?

Apparently somewhere over a million units per year.

I dunno how accurate that is.. but its the most recent I could find.

i had read something similar. Over a million units a year, yet I don't know anyone else how has one!
But then again many people have several at one time.

I started playing about 15 years ago and the new ukulele market was dead, the used market was hot. Ebay buyers were fiercely competitive because there was so little out there to buy.
From what I've observed in the New York area, the market has peaked and is beginning to decline.
The used market is saturated and pretty soon your going to be able to get high quality used instruments for a song. (No pun intended).
For a lot of the manufacturers the ukulele is a tiny piece of there main business.
I build and sometimes sell ukuleles but I do it simply for the love of building and playing. I wouldn't invest to heavily in it.
