So having now been fully bitten by the bug I am searching out info, and started listening to the Ooktown podcast. Immediately I have become aware of the fabulous 'Leftover Cuties'.

Now I would like to listen to more music featuring the uke. Obviously I am aware of the Jakes, and Jameses, and even the Eddies.

But I'm wondering are there bands or songwriters you particularly enjoy listening to who feature the uke in their music?

I know there is an artist list on the site ... but I'd like to know what everyone would recommend (and why!).

A modern singer/songwriter that often uses the ukulele and whose music I enjoy is "LP" (Laura Pergolizzi). (Wikipedia). Her official YouTube channel is here.

One duo I recommend you to have a listen to are Honoka & Azita - http://www.honokaandazita.com/video - they clearly love playing. :)

Zoe Bestel, Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Phil Doleman, just a few I can think of right now. ;)

They bring the biggest smile to my face when I watch them. I keep telling my beginning students that uke playing is for fun.....no one seems to be having more fun playing uke than these gals.

Check out Danielle Ate The Sandwich
Also Gracie Terzian who plays on a uke harp and has a voice to die for.

These look like brilliant suggestions can't wait to explore.

Heck, I enjoy just listening to Corey play on the HMS demos!

If you want to be reminded of the power of the soprano, check out George Elmes, he blows my mind and inspired me to pick up the soprano again:

I listen to Hawaii Music Supply's Vimeo a lot - Corey and Kalei who do most of the videos both have albums available, I particularly like Corey's Fables album. HMS also showcase different artists so it's a good place to go and discover new people:

Another good one is Elof and Wamberg:

Some lovely playing in there. You've got a lot to go and listen to now, as have I as I've not checked out all of the ones mentioned on this thread :)

Second the recommendation for Honoka and Azita. Both really enjoy playing. They're also excellent musicians. I met Honoka last summer at the Kanilea Shop. She and their manager were dropping off CDs. Very nice young lady. Azita was probably in school. They're just kids. I think Honoka just graduated from high school last spring.

I don't listen to many ukulele artists but at a recent weekend event I enjoyed the Mersey Belles - they were great fun - and Andy Eastwood - he does Formby stuff and more, a fabulous entertainer.

The Paul Hemmings Trio
Fiona Silver
Taimane
James Hill
Sarah Maisel
Veronica and the Red Wine Serenaders
Kris Fuchigami
Brittni Paiva

It's hard for me to find ukulele artists I like, to be honest...but there are some that I've heard and like....I like folk, singer-songwriter, Americana type stuff best usually..and a lot of stuff that is usually acoustic guitar driven..but would work great with an uke if put in their hands.

I really love The Vespers. They use uke some, but not always.

I recently came across Everett Coast:

I love their style and sound on that song.

One they do where the guitar doesn't drown out the uke even though it's there.

Just a couple there off the top of my head.

Two more:

Samantha Muir
, whose classical ukulele performances are a real treat (on soprano). I bought the The Beauty of Uke CD/album (there is also a book with the arrangements) and received it within just two days from England. She also has booklets and many videos on her YouTube channel.

Craig Robertson, who extensively uses the ukulele (often soprano) in his songs and performances. I recently bought his Practical Hypnotism album, which I really enjoy.
