I'm shamelessly ripping off this thread idea from another forum. Also, I don't know if it's been done before, so I could easily be pissing people off on two counts... but WTF?

What do you carry to gigs in your bag/rucksack/whatever?

I don't just mean the odds and ends you cram into your uke case, but the stuff in the bag where you put all the other things.

In my gig bag:

vocal mic
condenser instrument mic
XLR cables
jack cables
jack/XLR adaptors
acoustic pre-amp
music stand
song book
amp mains cable
batteries
electrical, masking and gaffer tape
screwdrivers
pliers
patch leads
business cards
pens
flash light
pocket knife
nail clipper
tin whistles
harmonicas
bodhran sticks

In uke case:

uke
jack lead
tuner
strings
cloth
headache pills
pen
more business cards

For my keyboard gigs:

  • Power strip
  • Extension cord
  • Various power cords
  • Various audio cables
  • Real Books ("legal" versions, vol. 1-3)
  • Plastic clips (like you use for potato chip bags--for clipping down music in windy conditions)
  • Damper pedal
  • Ipod loaded with jazzy music to pipe in between sets
  • Cliff bar (in case I don't get fed on the gig)
  • 3-prong adapter thingies
  • pens/pencils
  • Business cards
  • Aspirin

My uke bag just has a uke and a tuner in it.

I don't keep much in my cases.

In my bari case:
Uke w/strap attached
Wallet w/Takoyaki bling

In my tenor case:
Uke w/Tomo bling
Learnin' book that I only read once
Hal Leonard Chord Finder

My tuner is usually somewhere on my person.

Usually...
-Uke
-Tuner
-Strap (for my tenor, anyway)
-Notebook / Paper of some sort / Pen
-Folded up tabs / chords for whatever I'm learning at the time
-Barack Obama campaign button that I hide from my father (staunch libertarian)
-10 ft. cable (with my electric ukes

Usually that stuff is just strewn around the house... but when I actually go on a trip or somewhere like that with the uke, all that stuff will end up in the bag.

I use a 15 passenger van. My Carvin 15's won't fit in my gig bag.

Whenever I brought my guitar out, I used to just stuff all my electronic goodies in the back of my amp. Two long cables, two short ones, pedals, and a little folding stand.

Nowadays, I can stick all my uke crap inside my Flea Bag. I wrap my change of clothes around the uke for extra padding and so anything sharp or heavy doesn't scuff up the pineapple pattern.

to work: i simply bring the `ukulele, tuner, soft cloth, humidifier, my "current" chords folder and a steno pad for notes and such.

extended trips: along with the above, hal leonard chord book, fret stamp, metronome, ipod shuffle filled with songs i have in my chords folder, herb ohta, jr and daniel ho book, small tools set.

no electronics yet.

So, no one here takes tip jars along?

I was noticing that too man. I used to have one that said "Your generous donations directly benefit strippers in the greater Roanoke area."

:p
