Ran across this book preview, looks like it might be an interesting read about Hawaiian music

That does look like a decent book.

I just got to reading King/Tranquada "the 'ukulele", which, a.o., traces in great detail the spreading of hawaiian music onto the mainland. Should have some overlap with the book you mentioned.
