MuseScore is phenomenal. I'd call it the best open source application software (of any kind) I've ever seen.

(Its fretboard user interface is clunky and requires customization to work well with non-6 string diagrams, but it does work. I use it for all our uke group music.)
 
I mentioned this the other day, but I do most of my work these days with Notion, which is very friendly to guitar (and ukulele) as welll as the easy to use. It is $150, and the iOS app is $15. That's a bargain in the software world (but still $150'more than MuseScore). The ukulele sound is an additional purchase on both platforms.
