I haven't seen this mentioned here, but if it has been I apologize for the repeat. There are probably some who haven't seen it regardless.

There was a young lady on America's Got Talent this year who often played uke to accompany herself. That in and of itself is of interest to those here I know, but what makes this story even more amazing is that she has been deaf for about 10 years....Yet she can still play and sing very well...also a solid songwriter. It's amazing to me. She is amazing.

I'm sure there are other videos on youtube too.

Mandy Harvey is pretty special. She has been performing for quite a while, and America’s Got Talent often features talent that has been well established (including this year’s ventriloquist winner, who competed on other talent shows).

What is great is that Mandy can use this platform to further her own recognition and also to bring awareness to various issues for the deaf community as a result.

If you missed the videos—she watches her pitch on an app (PanoTuner) and then performs having memorized the FEELING of that pitch. That’s insane—particularly from someone who wasn’t born deaf (which is why she doesn’t “Sound funny” as some of my students asked—she did grow up able to hear).

Incidentally, there is a video out there of Hellen Keller speaking—quite remarkable (and extremely difficult to understand).

It is too bad she didn’t win...but she will reap many benefits from the experience.

My 10 year-old daughter was so amazed by her story, so one of her birthday presents is we're going to see her in January when she plays at Pepperdine University (Smothers Theatre). Second row seats!

I'm sort of disappointed in the thread. By the title I thought it would be about some girl hepped up on some hormonal drug or some derivative of adenosine triphosphate or something.

Thanks for sharing—those set of videos were very inspiring. I had no clue that feeling the vibrations through the ground in order to maintain rhythm was even possible.
