Pohaku Hawaiian Art Deco Tenor

You are right, Robin. That is a truly lovely instrument. Hope somewhere here buys it so we can hear how it sounds.

His instruments are always so artistic, tasteful and sound terrific. Some of the best I have seen.

Looks like a perfect candidate for Solorule's stable of fine instruments. Come on, Brenda, give us a break and make some videos with this so we can all enjoy it. :)

I've always loved the way the Peter Hurney's instruments look, but never heard one, not in person nor in a video.

So I too would love a sound sample, but I would be truly surprised if Brenda's attention can be diverted from her LFdM collection at this time and I am sure she is already busy working to perfect her next arrangement on the most recent uke that Luis has made for her, but I am happy to see anything that Brenda or anyone else is willing to share here for us.

There is a never-ending hunger for MOAR UKULELE. :)

Robin, thanks for bringing out this Pohaku to our attention here on UU. :)

I just saw this ukulele had been finished and I want to cry because it may just be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Check it out!

Yes, that Art Deco tenor is beautiful. But following your link drew my attention to Peter's Golden Atomic koa baritone. Peter told me that he was finding it an exceptional instrument. Couldn't resist. It's heading this way.

I couldn't resist sharing three links to my Pohaku instruments so you all could hear some samples. These are a couple years old now--my playing is better--but you can hear the Pohaku quality.
This is an Art Deco Tenor I no longer have: https://app.box.com/s/4nt12uvain3nes2dahy3
This is a custom concert my wife and I bought together: https://app.box.com/s/2z6q8gbb1x8ljru3g544
This is my wife's soprano: https://app.box.com/s/p11d3eqenk9qshhbnft5
All lovely instruments, they play so smoothly and sound wonderful to our ears.

Highly recommend Hurney's work.

UU member Caspet let me play a couple of his and I think they are the best sounding and most playable ukes I have ever laid my hands on.

Highly recommend Hurney's work.

I really liked the sound of the soprano! Couldn't hear the tenor very well. The concert's tape won't load at all.
Thanks for showing us these. His ukes look like works of playable art. Very unique, and unique is good.

The concert's file won't play as a preview, but I was able to download it and have a listen. Possibly my favourite of the three.

I love the tenor. Very nice build. Very unique and beautiful. Second, if anyone buys it , please post sound sample. Wish I could buy it . That is a looker and I bet sounds great. So many nice ukuleles out there.

Congrats Hodge. You definitely have an eye for fine instruments. I can't wait for review and sound sample

Congrats, Hodge! That one is stunning, too! And coming from one who has early childhood memories of the Spacecoast in the 60's, I love the Atomic theme!

I love Peter Hurney's work. Fantastic ukes! And so beautiful too.

I was thrilled to visit Peter at the Pohaku HQ in Berkeley this weekend. I got a chance to play the amazing Art Deco tenor, as well as the Atomic tenor sibling to the baritone that Doc J just bought. The Deco had a deeper, richer tone and the Atomic was a bit more classic in timbre. Both were amazing, but I ended up with the Red Dot, a Deco-inspired koa tenor.

And for those who want to see all the work that goes into a handmade ukulele, this video from the Pohaku website is quite enlightening:

That is some fine looking Koa, Gaz. Congratulations on your new beauty.
