uhm, okay. Rock'n'Roll or Metal????

Well...thats a definition of terms... Myself I never really cared for the term "heavy metal" and I dont think bands like Zeppelin, AC/DC or Thin Lizzy belongs to that genre, but it seems a lot of people - specially in the US - use that term for them too.

Here's a list of great (and in some cases terrible) rock bands that exemplifes the nature of the bands that could be covered:
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
Rainbow
AC/DC
Thin Lizzy
Whitesnake
Dio
Ozzy
Rush
Triumph
Kiss
Guns n Roses
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Saxon
Accept
Michael Schenker Group
Scorpions
Manowar
Mötley Crüe
Van Halen
Bon Jovi
Uriah Heep
Y&T
Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force
Metallica (up until '87)
Dokken
Ratt
Europe
ZZ Top
WASP
Def Leppard
Queen
...and many many more

Bands that don't belong in this contest (however great they might be):
Grunge bands
Punk bands (Sexpistols, Clash etc)
Journey
Toto
U2
Rolling Stones
Beatles
Jimi (Todd didn't know that, so I'm allowing his entry)
Cream
Clapton
Grateful Dead
Small faces
David Bowie
Tom Petty
Meatloaf
Dire Straits
etc.

Of course you can! Just gulp down a healthy Jack and wail away!

Passion and effort will be valued as much as technical skillz.

so, I definitely need to listen to some music I never did before. that's gonna be interesting...

but it does have to sound like metal?

Could be a brand new experience for you!

And, no, it doesn't have to sound like metal. Not much do when you play it on the uke. Just take a song from that era and genre and make it into your own uke style. If you wanna to number of the beast with a reggae beat you're welcome!

i have just put all my stuff away and saw this thread,

i am sooo on it

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCK

Nooooooo, why did I have to be at work when I read this, I wanna get going on one now! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Shame it's only up to '87 coz i had been working on a version of All Nightmare Long off Metallica's most recent album which was, certainly in my mind, a big return to form for them.

Lucky there's a million other great songs from that era to choose from ey.

Hmmm.... what to do... what to do......
