What's the cheapest tenor out there that would still have some low action and good playability when given some high-end strings?

I agree wholeheartedly... I was playing with my Tenor Lanikai which I bought for $90 at Baxter Northrop here in my neighborhood. It played well and sounded great... I still use it even though I have "better" Ukes.

I LOVE the KALA KA-ST, too bad it's not shaped like a pineapple.
