That would not surprise me. I've heard the same factory may assemble Ohana and Mainland ukes, only using different materials. Mike at Mainland also does final setup work on his before he sells them.
 
Ohana certainly have their ukes made in China and they check them over when they receive them before sendimg them out. There was an article about them in the recent UK Uke magazine.
 
Yes, I'm a big Ohana fan. Just pointing out that it's not unusual for mass-produced brands to share production facilities.

I've got two Ohana Vita Ukes - the 70 and the 70R. Similar the the Mele; different tuners, different finish on the neck. But I noticed the label in the Mele shows part of the model number has a 70 on it; that's a pretty good indication of not coincidentally being in the same factory.
