Hey guys! This week's episode of Uke Minutes is up!

Uke Minutes 45 - Diminished Chords

This one was kind of a challenge to explain visually, and some of the note and number notation might not technically be correct, but the concept is there - if you have any questions about this ep. or if you need anything clarified, go ahead and post below! Keep rockin'!

Thanks for the lesson!

I thought the diagrams were really clear and easy to understand...

also, what would you say dim chords are mostly used for?
like how maj chords have sort of a happier sound while min chords are sad:( and sus chords are like used to add some flavor to a dry chord pattern

Diminished chords are pretty awesome because they are pretty "uncommitted" as far as chords go. For example because the Cdim chord contains the notes C, Eb, Gb, and A, it is effectively the diminished chord for all of those notes. It can be used as a passing chord or a way to change keys and are especially common in jazz and blues.

Another cool thing is that diminished chords look like seventh chords and can be used as substitutes for sevenths. For example a Bdim (1212) looks an awful like G7 (0212), and can be used as a substitute, you know, if you're feeling funky like that. :D
