I recently received a bunch of eight Ukuleles to bring to Peru as a gift to a shantytown church were the pastor is teaching music to children. Among these were three Makala instruments. I was particularly impressed with these. One was a tenor, one a pineapple and the last a dolphin.
These had the best overall sound. They were easy to play and right out of the box needed no setup.
One of the others was a Cordoba concert size instrument. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this one - again right out of the box and was well pleased.
IMHO these laminate instruments are excellent for beginning and will last a long time until someone wants to find a higher end instrument. I would find it hard to improve on these for the price and workmanship.
