So far I've played only tenor ukulele, and I've pretty much settled on Bb tuning as my preferred. I like the deeper tones and lower tension. Thinking about trying out a bari, but I'm wondering how the tension on a DGBE baritone compares to a tenor in Bb tuning.

Ofcourse it all depends on string materials and gauges but as a broad brush comment I would say a baritone tuned DGBE has tension closer to B flat tuning on a tenor rather than C tuning. HTH

From the data on David Hurd's website, the Bb tenor tension should be lower. Although it may not feel that way.

I agree with Hodge that the perceived tension of the baritone would be less. The longer string length always seems to give or yield more hence feeling looser under finger.

Every baritone I own and have played has always felt looser than any tenor.

You may already know this, but with the right strings, you can tune a bari up to Bb so you won't have to learn new chord names. I have my bari tuned up to A with standard bari strings.

Found another good page from Mya-moe with string tensions for various sizes with the strings they use. Baritone shows larger tension than tenor, but very close within a pound or two on some strings. The longer baritone strings may still feel easier to fret, despite being higher tension.
