This is a Roy Smeck soprano from about 1940. It was given to me by a friend who used it in her high school music class. I cleaned it up and put on new strings, and it plays very nicely. What's unusual about this one is that the bottom, curvy part of the fretboard is painted on. The board is not attached with screws, as you see on most other Roy Smeck ukes.

Very cool! :shaka:

These have a nice vintage sound. I have two of them, acquired over the years. I crowned the frets. Immensely improves playability.

Neat!

I bought an old Roy Smeck with smashed in sides and bad neck angle. I filled the sides with putty and wiped on a bit of wood-colored poly and took it to a Jake Shimabukaro concert for him to sign. It has the plastic fretboard. Interesting that the extension of yours is painted on.

These don't have raised fretboards at all. The frets are in the neck and both the top of the neck and the body where the extension would be are painted. So are the position markers.
