Last night, five of us played at a huge wedding, and we wowed them. The father of the groom saw us play at an Arbor Day event a few months ago, and asked us to perform at his son's wedding. I thought it would be just another fun gig, but he handed us cash after we finished. I won't be buying a new car with the money, but it was nice just being paid.

I guess I'll join ASCAP now and attend all the music award shows. :D

Congrats! Playing for others is such fun.....and a little cash reward is nice. Beware, you might start getting more requests to play more events.

My ukulele group played for a fundraiser yesterday. We were the entertainment at the beginning of a pub crawl that was raising money for a health cause. We had a little tip money in our hat by the end to donate. It was a blast......and kind of addicting.

Congrats on becoming a professional musician!

I wish that we had a like button here to push. I liked that.

Way to go and just a quick clarification, ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) is for songwriters to get them royalties, AF of M (American Federation of Musicians) is for musicians who play gigs.

8 tenor cutaway ukes, 3 acoustic bass ukes, 8 solid body bass ukes, 7 mini electric bass guitars

• Donate to The Ukulele Kids Club, they provide ukuleles to children's hospital music therapy programs. http://www.theukc.org

I thought it was for "Performers." Oh, well, I'll have to compose something. : )

I prefer the laughter and applause of the audience. I don't see any professional career in my future.

Just remember: There are Tens of Dollars to be made in the music business...

Congrats Jerry! Just wondering... did anyone video some of the performance? It would be a nice keepsake, once the cash is gone (lol)?

Yes, lots of people had their cell phones recording, but they were wedding guests, and we didn't know them. Maybe something will come along.

Congratulations, Jerry. Welcome to the pay for play club. Over the decades, I've found that doing charity and community and civic gigs for free gets a lot of paying referrals from networking. Build your band an electronic press kit using a website/app similar to:

http://artistecard.com/

This way, you can text a link to anyone who wants to see who you are and what you look and sound like. Approach a local school and see if they would like to produce a video/documentary of your band as a class project for a YouTube video. Ric
