It is hot [and humid] here on the gulf coast. Even when our Ukulele gigs [UOSA] are in the evenings it can be mighty hot. I have a fan and try to stay hydrated, but where my uke touches my body my shirt gets wet, no air circulation. I seem to remember in my mando days there was a device that attached to the back that kept the instrument off your body and allowed the air to circulate. Or did I dream this?

I reckon you're referring to one of these:

Apparently he'll make custom one for ukes. Or you could, you know, bend a wire coat hanger and make one of your own!

A lot of violin players use something like that to lift the thing off the shoulder and also a chin rest. Besides the benefit of being easier to hold and allowing the air to circulate, it can lessen sound dampening due to body contact with the instrument.

I'm on the Gulf coast too. I usually place a very soft small towel between the back of the uke and my body. Towel absorbs the sweat and keeps it off the back of my uke. Of course, this only works while playing in the sitting position.

You could make one out of this stuff....give your uke a unique tone as well ;)

I recalled a thread from way back that might help. At least you can send a pic to ToneGard to remind them what they made.

yes, but unfortunately we Floridians must occasionally venture outdoors . While the temperature in AZ will be even warmer than FL today, the humidity here makes it more sauna like.
