Seeing a reference to Ancient Spruce here, and never having heard of it, I started looking around the web for more info about this 2000-3000 year old material. I thought that it came from underwater, like sinker, but it seems more likely to be spruce trees buried in ancient storms/landslides/glaciers. I assumed that it would just rot underground, but apparently the lack of oxygen and cold climate there, prevents rot. Being very rare and expensive wood now, it seems that finding an ancient log like that can be quite a financial windfall (pun intended).
