I picked up a $30 soprano ukulele not long ago, and haven't been able to put it down since. I'm absolutely certain that the ukulele is going to be my main instrument now, and I think it's time for an upgrade from my plastic soprano.

Here's what I'm specifially looking for:

1. A tenor
2. Around the $150 price range
3. High G

All of that is definitely flexible though. For example, I might be willing to go with a concert uke for $200 tuned to low G if you talk me into it.

any suggestions?

if you're lookin for a concert around the $200 mark then you can't go wrong with a mainland uke. http://www.mainlandukes.com

the customer service is great and the ukes sound incredible. check a few of these channels out for examples of sound quality and design.

Thanks UkeShale, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
But I wasn't saying that I specifically wanted a concert for $200. I was just using that as an example to show that I'm willing to take sugestions other than what I am specifcally looking for, which is a tenor for about $150 with a high G string.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my first post.

I think u can get a Lanikai koa laminate for around that price. I was looking at one for $139 at a music store here in Sac. It also had a pick-up too. I think Lanikais are very good for thier price.:shaka:

well mainlands are wonderful value for money so do keep it in mind!

as far as the high/low G string goes as being requirements - you can always buy some strings and restring any uke yourself (providing you're ok with restringing instruments)

you can get a tenor fluke for just over $200 at http://www.fleamarketmusic.com

failing that then check out MGM on ebay at http://stores.ebay.com/Musicguymics-Room

excellent customer service.

Sorry i can't give more actual ukulele suggestions but these are some of the best uke dealerships you're going to find online.

hope that helps

Thanks again guys, much apreciated
I just like to get all the input I can get before i make a purchase like this

they don't particularly have a great name in the uke world or anything. you can definitely get better for around the same price. it's your decision though!

A little better than their name in the mandolin world though... ;)

They also don't have a bad name. From what I have heard most reviews here on the forums have been pretty good. I have seen one but did not play it, in case I liked it and wanted to buy it.

You can use the search function to find out what others have thought about the Fender ukes.

This one is a Kala mahoganey and has an active pickup factory installed (its a laminate uke)

Here's one that is a little above your price range, but it has a solid sitka top (Kala).

This is a Lankiai thats well under your budget (laminate).

Or go for the new Fender thats a laminate mahoganey with that classy telecaster-style headstock.

KALA KA-ST Solid spruce top tenor. great sounding and looking for under $200.

I play one now and I love it. I have it strung with Worths low-G and it has a warm mellow sound. I'm getting another one with a pick-up for gigs.:shaka:

Here is another that interests me. It looks to me like it might be pretty similar to that fender. and it's a lanikai like FHS-72 suggested

Does anyone have one of these, or know anything about them? I'm still open to any and all suggestions

Ive got the pickupped version and I love it. Its a real good buy, and If you went with it I think youd like it too. I had the opportunity to play it before I bought it, and while I wasnt looking to upgrade at the time, I ended up buying it just because i fell in love with its sound and feel.
