Apparently, these nine prototypes of the Pineapple Sunday are selling fast. As of last night, #1 and #9 were spoken for. These are a bit out of my price range.

From Peng at KoAloha
"The PS prototypes is going from $2,500 and up. Each one prices differently but most in 3K range. No.4 is at $4,500. No.3, 5, 6 and 7 are $3,500. No.8 is $2,700 and No.9 is $2,500. No. 2 is $4,000 and of course No.1 is $5,000. For your reference, regular production PS goes around $2,000 sold out everywhere."

This seems nuts to me unless you're a "museum collector". Yes, they are one of a kind, but they're prototypes- so presumably the new production ones fixed "bugs" discovered in building the prototypes. And presumably the first prototype would have more bugs to be worked out and it's the most expensive. Ok, it's #1, I get that, but still. Nuts. :p

Are the prototypes something different they tried? I know they’ve changed the bracing over the years, added 2 strings, etc. Just curious.

Geez. Even the production Pineapples are pretty pricey. I didn't expect them to cost more than a Kamaka Tenor.

Pops posted three videos explaining the differences between the nine prototypes. The first one dates from 2005. He experimented with design, size, shape, and bracing until he got it just the way he wanted. I can't find a link to the videos.

I found one of the videos.
