Sounds like a mandolin to me! Seriously, there are a few taropatches out there (8-string concerts).

I think, Liam Kirby (http://www.wunderkammerinstruments.co.uk) once built one. At least he did have plans to do so. :D

Actually, I am thinking of getting a soprano with more than 4 strings right now, too. I just recently played a 5string bruko and: even for a bruko it sounded pretty cool. The 5th string really adds something:
