When I play my ukes through amplification I mostly use a small internal mic pickup rather than a piezo. The sound is good, but feedback is a little more of an issue than with, for example, an under-saddle piezo.

You've probably seen acoustic guitarists using soundhole plugs, sometimes called feedback busters. These work very well, just about eliminating feedback altogether. The problem is that they do not seem to be commonly made for ukes.

No matter! we can improvise!

for soundholes the size of those on Makala dolphin ukes, plastic end plugs from cardboard postal/mail tubes fit pretty close. A wind of electrical tape make the fit snug and perfect.

For Kala tenor ukes, the plastic pop-in tops from gravy granule packs (the cylindrical ones that are like cans made of cardboard) seem to fit perfectly with no modifications.

If you have ever experienced feedback problems when amplifying your ukes, do try these improvised plugs. They're so much neater than taping bits of cardboard over your sound holes!
