I am exploring the world of alternate tunings, for songs that I would like to sing to vs pick.

I have found the the traditional GCEA is to high for my range and I have tried lowering the tunings on 2 tenor ukes as an experiment:

F-Bb-D-G

and the other even lower

Eb-Ab-C-F

Does this mean that I am headed to Baritone territory? Anyone do these lower tunings. The tension is noticeably less and pleasant and these two match my vocal range.

If I get a baritone, any problem tuning up, since it is lower than those I have mentioned? Anyone alternate tune their baritones?

I came to ukulele from bass and I usually tune EADG on my tenors. I love both the lower tension and the tonal range!

I don’t really consider these “alternate” tunings as they are just transpositions of standard tunings, but yes, I do a lot of them. My baritone is currently in Ab instead of G, as it is a short scale and the tension is better there. I’ve also done baritone in A. I also do tenors in Bb and lots of folks do baritone in Bb as well.
