A funny little series of things happened that prompt me to write:
1. Discovered this vintage Kamaka catalogue on Ebay. Who knew that Kamaka once made lutes!?!

2. I've so admired Campbell's beautiful videos of classical uke, but because of gaps in my technology (only using my phone right now) I've not had easy access to his tutorials.
Then I discovered Tony Mizen's Uke to Luke book. The tabs are incredibly approachable for even a novice fingerstyle player like me. A whole lotta fun, and so pretty! I'm astonished how well a uke (in re-entrant tuning!) works for this music.
There's even a CD included (thanks to a couple years of childhood piano lessons I'm able to pick out the rhythms of these melodies without it).

3. I recently bought a slightly used Ohana TK-35G tenor off of Ebay just to try it out.
What an amazing instrument for the money! I can see now why people speak so highly of this affordable brand.
This lute music sounds absolutely wonderful on this instrument - the mahogany seems to provide the perfect timbre.
Now if I could just work up the guts to rough up that sticky glossy neck (pet peeve of mine)... and are there any tuners whose screws would match the holes of those tacky rectangle sealed tuners on the TK-35G? They seem to work OK but are awfully homely...
