I'm holding my very first contest. I'm going to make a video about it this week, but I'm opening it up to my UU peeps first, so you guys can get a heads-up.

First prize will be a re-Deached tenor cigar box ukulele with pick-up from Papa's Boxes. This thing is awesome. It was given to me by Deach a while ago, and I love playing it. I'll be sad to see it go, but it's time to spread the love.

Here are the rules:

  • Make a video of yourself playing a hip-hop/rap song. It can be a cover or an original.

  • An ukulele must be at least one of the instruments used.

  • An ukulele must be seen in the video.

  • The video must be made specifically for this contest.

  • Introduce yourself and say, "This is my entry for Seeso's Hip-Hop Ukulele Video Contest on Ukuleleunderground.com" at the beginning of the video.

  • Post a link to your entry in a reply to this thread.

  • You can enter up to three videos for the contest.

  • The contest will be judged on entertainment value only. Technical expertise may help, but it will not be given the highest priority. This means beginners are more than welcome to enter!

  • Contest ends on June 30th, 2009.

  • Have fun!

Pictures of the ukulele are attached to this post.

Do I sense an excuse to cover MC Frontalot?:shaka:

I'll see what I can manage. (keep in mind how many times I say this:D)

Awesome contest and even better prize! This ukes got history, twas played not only by deach but seeso! I'm imagining this contest is gonna be a big one.
Thanks Though Seeso!

Can acapella tracks be used?

Good question. Yes, you can use a capella tracks. I wouldn't encourage it, however. Let's just say if you do the vocals yourself, you'll stand a much better chance at winning.

NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE contest.. i got something in mind for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i am off of school in two weeks! so if you think my videos are goofy now.. this one i plan on taking that to the next level! this is a GREAT contest! i like all the rules and how they are stated! nice job seeso!!

How about having more people in the video, playing other instruments and/or singing etc? is that allowed

Three classic hip hop crossovers to get peoples juices flowing while stuck at work in their cubicals..... :wallbash:

Sir Mix A Lot's Baby got Back - Uke Style

Dynamite Hack's Easy E cover (once you get past the intro) - Boyz N Da Hood

My favorite: !!! - Get up (Nate Dogg cover)

Can you enter more than one video? I'm writing something here at work but I want to do a cover too.

D'oh! I only just got the hang of reggae, now hip hop? MMMmmm 'Hip hop thru the tulips...' It might just work - i can see myself slowly doing an album of improbable covers of tiptoe!

Wow what a generous thing to do, it's real hard to give away an instrument, like watching your kids leave home!

Wow... I've never been able to enjoy hip hop music... I want to enter.

Who can help me appreciate hip hop so I can find a song to cover!?

Yes, you can have as many people in the video as you want!

There are plenty of good rap songs. Cover a cheesy one from the 80's!

First video! (i think)

A cover with 4 tracks, 1 synth for strings and drums, rythm concert ukuele, accompaniment bari ukulele, me singing.

I know most of the props are for entertainment value, so consider the poorly edited video to be the entertainment, I was surprised it even rendered, most of my videos haven't lately.

Blame it on the Alcohol

Oh I'm all OVER this one! I'll be digging up something seriously oldschool; Treacherous Three, or Grandmaster Flash, or something like that.
