KoAloha Ukulele Kit

Someone just told me about this. Interesting idea. I don't see anyone selling them, though.
The video state that they are available in the factory, and you can assemble it right there with guidance from the factory staff or even Pops Okami himself (who operated the bandsaw when I was there, building a "Sundae Special").

I think the last time this came up, the general feeling was that it's neat, but for the price of the kit, you can a koalana for the same cost.

It's fun if you want to hobby "build" a uke, but unless you get value from the experience of putting it together, you're probably better for getting a koalana/opio.

I saw them when I was there on a factory tour. I thought it was a good idea until I saw the colored Sharpie pens that they had there so that you could color the soundhole trim piece before installation. In my opinion it made them look cheap.

it looks low grade.....bottom barrel......if you watch vedio you can tell by his delivery he think its a farce.,...
not adding value to the well respected Koaloha name...

If you are interested in a Koalana specifically, then I don't know where you can get one. But if you are just interested in a kit like that, they are everywhere. I saw one a couple of weeks ago at the Farm and Fleet store. It was a Grizzly brand and it was mahogany. I also think that Ohana has one. I'll bet it is the same kit. https://ohana-music.com/diy-ukulele-kits/

For $79, that's a good deal. Stewart-MacDonald has a kit, but it requires a lot more work than snapping parts together.

I have two of these that were sent to me by Pops as prototypes. I can tell you from personal experience that these are top notch ukuleles, especially in terms of sound quality. Pops spent a long time in research and development for a new ukulele to put out under his new Ukulele Specialties of America (UkeSA) brand. He came up with the Wow ukulele, which he called his "stadavarious" of ukuleles. Pops handmade each Wow himself. His next effort was to make the Wow in a kit with the main difference being that the kit forms were pre-made at KoAloha in Thailand, thus lowering the cost substanially. The two kits that I have were branded UkeSA but they decided to re-brand the kits as KoAloha and only available from the factory. Trust me-- these are quality ukulele and worthy of the Koaloha name. They are solid wood (pine body and neck, Engleman Spruce tops) and I prefer this to my KoAlana. Remember, you have to finish it yourself which saves on cost. Suppose you are new to ukulele and you wanted something not to expensive, but of real quality. Great volume and pitch, well built, easy to play, and it won't break the bank-- then this is the uke for you. take alook at these videos and just ennjoy the silliness, but pay attention to the quality of the sound coming from this ukulele (pre-Koaloha branding):

Just wondering, does anyone have any experience with these kits? I’m pretty interested in maybe getting my hands on one myself.

I would love to "participate" is making one of their ukes and would be happy to pay extra for it, within reason. Ever since I started playing ukulele (not too long ago) I want to go to Hawaii to have an experience of playing a bunch of Hawaiian ukuleles right there and buy one of them.
