View Full Version : FS Custom Hoffmann made ML tenor in Narra and Cedar, with custom case

Narrowing down my uke collection in 2019. For sale is a very special uke made by luthier Jerry Hoffmann. This cedar topped tenor started out in life as a 2012 spruce topped, Narra wood ML Boat Paddle, Jerry Hoffmann’s former uke brand. He replaced the top on this ML style tenor in 2017, bringing the top bracing and bridge up to his current Hoffmann Lutherie standards. It sounds terrific. The cedar top has a walnut bound oval sound hole with a koa(? Or Narra) rosette with BWB purpling around the rosette. The Narra wood body is bound in walnut top and back (purfling on top). Jerry converted the neck from glue-on to bolt-on, and refinished the entire instrument in an excellent gloss finish. It is now similar to one of his new Hoffman ML's with modest, taste bling, and the original Boat Paddle headstock with pearl inlay. The head plate, fretboard, and bridge are ebony. The tenor has no dents, dings, scratches or marks. It is gorgeous and truly mint.

It comes with a custom fitted case by GWW cases who also makes the Ameritage line, one of the most respected names in musical instrument cases. Other details include flat fretboard, strap buttons installed, Grover butterbean tuners, Hoffmann pin nut.

Please buy it before I decide to keep it. Got too many ukes.

This has a warm, clear sound that is great in various tunings. Samples (Bb,B tuning) recorded with South Coast Medium Smooth Wounds.

If I did not already own a Hoffmann ML, I would jump on this. For anyone interested in a Hoffmann, the price here acknowledges excellent restorations that were made. This is a phenomenal deal on a fine luthier's uke. The tone of Mr. Hoffmann's instruments is truly beautiful. The neck and fretboards are just about perfect and just absolutely... right. They play effortlessly. When you hold one, you will understand how the unique shape makes this style simply disappear into you when you hold it to play, and how easy your hands float over the strings. After others that came before, a Hoffmann was the first uke I owned that felt like all there was, was music moving through me. All best with this sale, Doc_J!
