I thought this was interesting, and a great explanation of this cool instrument. Very knowledgeable guy; at 6:50 he demonstrates moveable frets, what a concept! And talk about bass notes!

I like when he unfolds and secures the neck extension, with strings under tension, and it is still in tune, unless the tuning was edited out in a video splice.

Imagine flying with such a huge lute. I think the folding bass extension is a modern improvement on the 17th c. design to allow travel! I owned a much smaller 8 course lute (15 strings) and it was a real &%T^#UYV+HG to tune with those violin like tampered pegs. That guy is really good.
