Grain direction for neck

What grain direction do you typically use for your Tenor necks.
Quatersawn mahogany. Grain lines running up-down or left-right. I have heard it might be stronger with the grain flat (Left-Right).

Quartersawn running up-down for maximum strength would be my advice. Stress running parallel to the grain. Seems intuitive to me...
 
My preference is quarter sawn (up/down.)
However, when the dimensions of a block of wood make it usable only with a left/right grain orientation, I still use it without a second thought.
 
This is what is happening to me. With the block of wood I have, I would have more yield with left/right.

You could rip it L/R flip them over glue a contrasting piece of wood in and you have a 1/4 sawn neck blank .
