Hello everyone,

I have a Kala 8 string baritone and have played it for a year and it sounds great. I had played around with the tuning with its original DdGgBBEE strings and reused them in different places. (Dd became Cc, Gg stayed the same, BB became AA, EE stayed the same).

Not a fan of the 2 unison EE and AA.

After some tinkering, I now have a Baritone CcGgEeAa, that plays great sound, but the low e is a bit loose but I think I have figured out the low a from Frankensteining from an old set.

Question is, anyone else attempted this tuning and any suggestions for low e and low a ? I'm open to a nickel or silk wound low e. I'm worried about tensions.

Thanks.

First thought would be the Thomastik Infeld CF30 and CF27 flatwounds. I have these as part of a 19" guilele set tuned to F and Bb so 20" baritone E and A would be the same low-to-medium tension

Hello Jim,

Thanks for the response.

I will look for the Thomastik strings.

Wondering if anyone else has attempted this modification.

Cheers.
