I broke the fingernail on my right index finger.

That's my "add a quick strum while fingerpicking nail"
I had no idea how dependent I'd become on that nail. I thought I was using my other fingers more, and their nails are just right. But now I play and I do a quick strum and it's like "druuuump"

yeah yeah, go ahead and tease me. I just found the charger for an old iphone my daughter gave me a few years back. I was going to use it to record my four mahogany concerts and post a "guess which is which" thread.

But now it's gonna hafta wait till my nail grows back

I find the pinkie works best for me as the strum while picking finger and it's easier to keep a longer nail on. Could be a good time to see if it works for you as well.

Funny! That's the only nail I care about, and I've been able to maintain it at a decent length.
