One of the people I play with asked me if I knew anything about this Uke. It’s been in her family for a long time. There are no makers marks or logos anywhere on or inside the Uke. Tuning pegs are wooden violin like friction pegs.
Thanks for that. I had a look but no joy. This looks like a very inexpensive Uke to me. What looks like some type of spruce soundboard but going by the width of the growth lines, a poor quality. Back and sides are a mystery to me. Doesn’t look like any wood that I’ve seen on ‘20’s/30’s Ukes. Certainly not Koa, mahogany or monkey pod.
Bill, you should give Alison this info the next time you’re both at the Subi Markets playing with SUFFA. Definitely another possibility as to the origins of her Ukulele.
