I was interested to know if anyone has a song or riff they always play when they play a uke for the first time?

I usually play the following in this order:
1) Eagles Hotel California Intro-am (sometimes bm)
2) Queen Love of my Life intro-C
3) BeeGees Lonely Days-am

The Band - Ophelia :D

Strum patterns to warm up.

Then into playing Pipeline, originally by The Chantays.

Then Little Brown Bag.

Here Comes The Sun with the riffs
Hesitation Blues with the riffs
Whatever chord melody I'm working on at the time
An oldie ......Five Foot Two, Anytime, Moonglow, Sweet Georgia Brown

Hotel California- Eagle
Wish you were here- Pink Flloyd
Here comes the Sun- Beatles

Growin' Up - Bruce Springsteen (finger picked intro)
Fish and Whistle - John Prine (fingerstyle arrangement)
Here Comes The Sun - George Harrison/Beatles (lately because I'm trying to learn it)

Aint Misbehavin

Second. It is the first thing I’ll play on a new uke. Plenty of different chords to test out intonation and overall feel with.

Steam Powered Aeroplane... John Hartford - for strumming

Hometown Blues - Steve Earle - for fingerpicking

Or whatever I’m trying to figure out

Cheers!

Thanks! Right now I’m working on Little Feat’s Willin’ but I’m not quite there.

Lol, I've been playing that a lot. I had never heard it before, but one of my ukulele students brought it in. She brings in a lot of songs like it such as Hotel California, Free Mexican Airforce, etc. She's in her 70s and it cracks me up.

My go-to for sing and strum is St. James Infirmary. My noodling songs are Roxy's Waltz and Crooked Tree Waltz by Aaron Keim. Oh, and The Penalty by Beirut.

There are some songs here I've never heard of! I'll have to look them up.

I like chord melodies:
Aura Lee
Anona Waltz
Amazing Grace

I don't sing much, but when I do, I love to sing Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road, and Gone.

Willin' is my go to acoustic guitar warm up song. :shaka:
My ukulele warm up is an original that I haven't named yet.
