I see some KoAloha ukes with "Pikake" in the description. What does that mean?

Pikake is a satin finish. I’d love to hear one next to a gloss finish of the same model.

It’s their satin finish koa model. I think they quit making them a year or so back. They started offering the non-Opio Acacia Rosette models last year in a satin finish with the ebony rosette. I heard that these were a replacement for the Pikake model. I think someone who went to this year’s NAMM heard that they are bringing the Pikake back?????

Long ago, before I settled on Kamaka as my brand of choice, I did an extensive comparison of Koaloha Pikake vs. gloss models in a shop one day. I far preferred the sound of the Pikake models every time.

I remember reading about that new model. I think you would need expensive electronics to detect a difference, and that difference could be the result of different wood or sightly different construction variations. I would bet they are offering the non-gloss for people who like that type of appearance.
