The newest version of TuxGuitar has a couple neat new features that I've tried out and it works pretty well. The one that stands out is a new 'speed trainer' that allows you to play all or part of a tab file in a loop -- yeah, big deal, the other part of this is you can set it to playback faster each time the loop comes around. I was playing with it for an hour or so today and saw a pretty dramatic improvement right away.

If you're not already familiar with this program, it is an open-source (totally free) multitrack guitar (or ukulele) tablature editor and player written in Java-SWT, It can open GuitarPro, PowerTab and TablEdit files. It runs on Linux, Windows and Mac.

Have fun!

Sweet thanks for that link brother. Looks like a cool program.

How do I use it?

TuxGuitar looks great, but I can't figure out how to use it. Is there a tutorial somewhere? I did manage to add one or two notes and then export to ascii so that one could convert music notation to tabs and post in ascii, but I couldn't figure out how to place notes correctly or move them around.

Sorry so late seeing this, must have been a shiny object that distracted me. Anyways, I quickly learned with this and other similar programs that you cannot enter notes directly on standard notation, they must be entered on the strings. You can find docs at http://www.tuxguitar.com.ar/tgwiki/doku.php

Have fun!
