The sliding toggle switch is to select only the neck pickup, or to select both pickups, or to select only the bridge pickup.
The top knob is for volume, the lower knob is for tone.
The sound is also affected by your amplifier, the diameter of your amp speaker, the quality of your pickups, and by how close your pickups are to your strings. I like to add a delay. Some amps allow you to select a delay setting, others require that you add a delay pedal. Some amps just have volume, others allow you to adjust treble, mid, and bass.
