As I mentioned in a previous post, I recently got a Vorson FSUK-1 electric uke. It has two knobs and a triple position toggle switch. Unfortunately, it has no instructions. I have an idea what the controls do, but can someone spell it out for me? Obviously, one is for volume, and the other two control tone - somehow.

The sliding toggle switch is to select only the neck pickup, or to select both pickups, or to select only the bridge pickup.

The top knob is for volume, the lower knob is for tone.

The sound is also affected by your amplifier, the diameter of your amp speaker, the quality of your pickups, and by how close your pickups are to your strings. I like to add a delay. Some amps allow you to select a delay setting, others require that you add a delay pedal. Some amps just have volume, others allow you to adjust treble, mid, and bass.

This video series by Jordan Kiener uses the Vorson LP model, but it may be helpful. He created videos for Clean, Folk, Country, Rock, Rock solo, Surf, Jazz, and Metal. Of course, those variations come from the modeling amp. Start by listening to the Clean video, and see what he does with the knobs.

I’ve been searching for a great battery powered amp, but I’m beginning to lean toward a larger amp. Are you anywhere near a music store? Take your Vorson, and ask to compare a BOSS Katana Mini with a BOSS Katana 50. Same brand, two different speaker sizes, very different sounds.

I have the Boss Katana Mini, which is a great little amp that I bought to use in jamming sessions with my keyboard.

But since I bought a Risa ST electric uke that now gets plugged into the Katana Mini and it sounds very good.

Personally I am not bothered about Amp tones as I have a Zoom G1X Four multi effects pedal which has 50 customisable presets and each preset has up to five effects that can be added including amps and Cabs as well as different delays and reverb so I have a multitude of available effects.

Both units are battery powered.
