Howdy,

Does anyone know if Ernest Ka’ai made any recordings? If so, are they available anywhere?

Thanks!

Ka'ai played many instruments. Aside from being an 'ukulele virtuoso, he was also an influential steel guitar player. His steel guitar chops can be heard on a handful of early Japanese/Californian jazz recordings featuring Amano Kikuyo and Futamura Teiichi. You can still find copies of them if you search around a bit.

I'm not aware of any recordings that definitely feature Ka'ai on 'ukulele. This recording may feature Ka'ai playing 'ukulele accompaniment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEVrwFXUXVM

Hey David,

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can locate those recordings. I don't think I've ever heard any early Japanese/Californian jazz recordings. Sounds like something that I might be into.
