I'm visiting a relative in the San Diego area, and brought my concert Flea. He's been playing guitar for a couple of years, and wanted to get a uke, so we went shopping at his local shop. Coming from guitar, I recommended a tenor. The shop had both Islander AT-4 (lam acacia) and an MT-4 ISL (lam mahogany, with Hawaiian islands tattoo). Both sounded good, but the MT-4 had a bit more depth and richness, both had Nylguts. He ended up getting the MT-4. The strange thing we noticed was that the MT-4 had a noticeably deeper body at the neck joint, pretty much the same depth as the lower bout at the bottom. The AT-4 was much less deep at the neck joint, probably 1\2" less deep than the MT-4 ISL, very noticeable when viewed side-by-side. Probably why the MT-4 ISL sounded deeper. I thought it was strange that the body dimensions were so different, but it couldn't have been a mistake.
