HMS and Islander

I consider the Islander MT and AT model lines to be the best "starter" ukes: affordable, but with the sound of "real" ukuleles, a step above the typical economy range. .... I notice from looking at the Islander site that many previous models have been dropped, particularly from the upper end. They now seem to be offering fewer wood choices and instead focusing on chasing the entry market, mainly through cheesy ..er.. fun engravings on basic models, I wonder if they're scaling back Chinese production in preparation to move operations elsewhere.

That would be a very sad turn for a great (and often underappreciated) brand. I also felt that they were a notch above the usual Kala and Ohana masses, but I am not surprised that with much smaller production and sales numbers something would have to give.

I noticed recently that Musician's Friend is starting to sell this brand. A few are in stock and quite a few more are "pre-order".
That could be quite a bit of volume if they take off there.
