Anyone know of any venues that play live Hawaiian music or ukulele music on Oahu that is in a nice environment. Not loud and trashy, yet not touristy either.

Duke's always feels touristy. I probally should have clarified. Would like to stay Windward side or away from Waikiki.

Best bet if some of da locals can offer some recommendations . . . this listing should give you a good starting point. Sorry, if I can't be of more assistance, not residing in the 808 (it's still home, tho).

Here's some places, there's always music at all the major hotels, many of them have free outdoor entertainment and dress is very casual, shorts, t-shirt and slippas. My favorite is the Moana Surfrider, there's nothing better than sippin on a Mai Tai enjoying the evening listening to Hawaiian music.:shaka:

Chai's Island Bistro: features headliners, top Hawaiian recording artist performing daily
Chiko's tavern
Kani Ka Pila Grille
Higher ground cafe
Thai Sweet Basil
Sunset Cafe
Tapa Bar
Chart house

Have fun! You can also check out the Kamaka Factory, Ko'aloha and Ko'olau. If you have time the pawn shops also have a ton on uke's.

Have Fun!

Mike Keale plays with a small group at the Waikiki Mariott during the week. He plays uke and guitar and plays a little bit of all types of music. He starts around 6 or 6:30 PM I think. Check his website out.........mikekeale.com........I believe

I know that Led Kaapana plays at the Kona Brew Pub Koko Marina quite a bit. It looks like he's there on Sunday, but going on tour in July. http://www.ledkaapana.com/concerts.htm

The Brew Pub has a great atmosphere (at least the Kona Kona Brew Pub did...).

Great music, good food, killer location!

There were two really bands at the Hilton Hawaiian during the day when I was in Waikiki recently. Also the Irish Rose had some good bands at night.

WOW I never heard that name ALONG time, HONEY'S the original home of Don Ho. Used to be located on the corner of Kamehameha Hwy. and He'eia Rd. in Kane'ohe, drove by it every Saturday on the way to He'eia Harbor to go fishing with Dad on his boat in the 1960s. Nice to see the HONEY'S name perpetuated. Mahalo cpatch for the info, allot of things changed while on Maui for 12 years.
Before the Ko'olau Country Club and Golf Course was created that land was all forest that I used to hunt wild boar in as a youth some 30+ years ago. :eek:ld:
