Hi,

I'm Smithpaul60, I just got my ukulele for fathers day and love it. I have had it for less than a week and have already learned "Drop, Baby Drop", "Over the Rainbow/ wonderful world" by IZ, "I can see clearly now", and a few others. I have been searching the Forums for other songs to learn but I don't know most of the songs. (BTW the links to the Large PDF File with about 200 songs is awesome.)

However, I need some guidance, I want songs that are upbeat and have the "I love life" feel. I also want some traditional songs, but living in South Carolina I don't really have access to the culture. I am looking for the songs on youtube and others but there are a lot of songs to sort through.

That is where you come in, If you know any songs that fit please let me know. Difficulty level is not a concern, I will learn the song, just might take me a bit longer.

Thanks in advance. :shaka:

Here's a thread with a listing of resources (http://www.ukuleleunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5446). Couple other sources you may find interesting . . . Andrew Rogers (http://marcdashevsky.com/Ace/aceartist.html), Betty Lou's (http://bettylou.zzruss.com/), Gunther Anderson (http://www.guntheranderson.com/v/toc.htm) and Jumbo Jimbo's (http://www.jumbojimbo.com/).

Kanaka;
Thanks for those resources. I'm sure you are tired of that type of post. I am hoping to cut through most of that material and find the songs I like to play.

BTW: I love the quote on your sig.

Revwill;
Thank you, that is exactly what i need; some specific songs that match my feel. Now If to find a translation.

Thanks again to both of you and to those who will post later.

Nah, just happy to assist and really nothing one can do about it. As far as the mele Henehene Kou Aka, you can find the lyrics/translations here (http://www.huapala.org/He/Henehene_Kou_Aka.html). Here's an Iz video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPUx53G0uGg) of that song. Enjoy! A Hui Hou . . . oops, the chords can be found @ TSH (http://www.tropicalstormhawaii.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?pid=song&song=lj/henehene_ko_aka.txt).

A post with tons of useful information that someone put a lot of time and effort into putting together? I, for one, am not at all tired of that type.

Anyhoo, if I were you, I'd head off to Pandora (http://pandora.com) and set up a custom station. Seed it with a few specific songs that you would consider to be "upbeat" and "I love life" and all that.

It will respond by playing all sorts of songs that are along those lines. When you hear one you like, go learn to play it.

(Oh, and welcome to UU! :) )

Lots of great upbeat songs on this Ukulele Beatles Fun site:
http://www.beatlesite.info/

You have to play along online, no printouts, but the chords are really nice, and well, the songs are familiar! You can always pause the "play" to either write down the chords, or study chord changes that go by too fast during the learning stage.

Thank you all who have posted. This is great, I have been playing Guitar for about 10 years now and never have I encountered a group so ... cool. What is it about the Ukulele that makes everyone happy?

Also: What about traditional Hawaiian songs? I'm sure there are many out there.
