View Full Version : This may be silly, but....

My fiance is a member of a COMPLETELY different forum (ar15.com) and they do this silly thing called "Dinner Pics". I think it would be neat if we started it here as well. I know he would get a kick out of it. What gave me the idea is UAS - he has it bad, but with guns... so the comparison is there ;)

I'm not sure what the rating system is, we can work it out as we go, but the main idea is to display your collection on the dinner table surrounding your plate of food and post the pic on here. A gun example is below:

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3392/dsc01031t.jpg

Haha, just found their rules:

Mandatory: (what you must have in your dinner pic(s)
- Prep pics (could be optional if your finished product pic has enough WIN)
- Long gun
- Handgun
- Reloads (Extra mags/loose rounds for your AR/AK/Handgun/Deer rifle/Shotgun/etc - minimum will be determined by the collective)
- Knife (A tactical/combat knife is suggested)
- Napkin
- Fork
- Spoon (optional - but suggested with soup/chili and other liquid diet foods)
- Alcohol with possible reloads (If you do not drink alcohol a non-diet soda will suffice)
- Must have meat (bacon is highly regarded in the ARFCOM community)
More to be updated with the collective's remarks...

Optional: (Will aid you in higher ratings)
- Hot wife/girlfriend with the food
- NFA stuff
- Pie (hasn't been deemed mandatory yet)
- If you are the one who killed the animal from which you have gotten your meat for the dinner pic (extra points could be awarded if you provide pics of the animal)
- Measuring tape (a highly disputed item amongst ARFCOMers, some say it will or will not get you bonus points)
More to be updated with the collective's remarks...

Just change that around to fit ukuleles and we're set. And I vote that meat not be mandatory, seeing as I'm a vegetarian!

I only have one ukulele, so unfortunately I cannot participate :(

But PLEASE! Post yours!

Mandatory: (what you must have in your dinner pic(s))
- Prep pics (I like them myself...)
- Ukulele (1 is mandatory, others are welcome)
- Tuner (of some sort)
- Napkin
- Fork
- Knife (if needed for what is for dinner)
- Spoon (optional - but suggested with soup/chili and other liquid diet foods)
- Drink of choice

Optional: (Will aid you in higher ratings)
- Hot spouse/significant other with the food
- Pie (hasn't been deemed mandatory yet)
- Strings
- Extra points for pet

More to be updated with the collective's remarks...

This is what I came up with so far. Anyone have any other recomendations

I love it! But you have strings as mandatory with optional in parenthesis.... it should be moved down to optional.

Also, we should add a ridiculous item to the optional for extra points (like the measuring tape).... maybe a pet (dog, cat, fish, whatever)? Or...hmmm.... something everyone has.... I don't know.... any ideas?

How about teach yourself Ukulele books and music (sheet) being included on the table. Maybe picks as well.

Seeing as there are holsters on the table in the initial photo. Perhaps straps or what is used as straps.

How about photos of how long a line you can make if you stack your ukuleles end to end?

Regarding Ricdoug above. Talk about protected properties. Anyone who has their own shooting range and dogs should be well protected. Then if he also keeps all those guitars out of tune. He would really be set to stand off the world.

Have a Great Day,

I always thought the guns and dinner thing was goofy on AR15.com. Ukes and dinner...still goofy. On the other hand, I like goofy things...I may have to assemble the family and join in. I only have one uke at home - Betty lives at home, Junior lives at work...Rover is at work at the moment, too...

Guns obviously don't bother me...but people who treat them with a cavalier attitude scare me. There was a comment by the OP something to the effect "you left your gun on the bathroom sink again," that gives me serious pause - you should always know where your gun is, always assume it's loaded even if you KNOW it's not...just "leaving it on the bathroom sink" is a careless attitude that shows a lack of training and maturity...

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on that tangent.

I totally understand your opinion on firearms. There would certainly be less gun violence if nobody had them. I'm just not sure I want to be the first to give them up. Personally, I shoot more copperheads (http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/wildlife/information/?s=030016) and deer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-tailed_deer) than people.

I gave a shotgun to a buddy last week. His first son is about to be born. I figured that was a nicer baby shower gift than a diaper genie. His wife wasn't so happy but he was thrilled.

Looking back at that picture the only things I actually paid for in it are the Uke strings, the yellow makala, the food, plate, utensils, and papertowel. Every thing else was gifted or lifted. Guns, Tenor, Ammo, even the beverages with lime were entrusted unto me. (I'm dog sitting. My friend dropped dogs off while I was gone and left me a little treat in the fridge. Thanks Mary!)

Brass knuckles!!! Epic. How's playing the uke with those on? :D

LOL!

Actually those are just for show. They are realistically way to big to be any use unless you have absolutely monstrous hands. Even then they aren't exactly form fitting and would probably skin your knuckles if you hit somebody. They aren't even metal. I wouldn't have real ones. That would be illegal:

Code of Virginia § 18.2-311. Prohibiting the selling or having in possession blackjacks, etc.

If any person sells or barters, or exhibits for sale or for barter, or gives or furnishes, or causes to be sold, bartered, given or furnished, or has in his possession, or under his control, with the intent of selling, bartering, giving or furnishing, any blackjack, brass or metal knucks, any disc of whatever configuration having at least two points or pointed blades which is designed to be thrown or propelled and which may be known as a throwing star or oriental dart, switchblade knife, ballistic knife, or like weapons, such person shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor. The having in one's possession of any such weapon shall be prima facie evidence, except in the case of a conservator of the peace, of his intent to sell, barter, give or furnish the same.

There are ups and downs. From where America is at, it's hard to see how you can get rid of them. Here, most petty criminals don't have guns, and I'd be very happy to see it stay that way. I used to shoot pistol when it was still legal, and enjoyed it, but it seemed a small thing to give up for the benefits.

The only bad people I really fear are bad people with guns. Of course, drunk people with guns, angry people with guns and sleepwalking people with guns are also scary, good or bad. So far, nobody with no gun has been able to shoot me.....

I do like ukuleles though. If y'all sold those guns, you could buy some SUHWEET ukes.....

Do you own a knife? Have you ever been drunk? Have you ever been angry? Are you a good person? So far nobody with no knife has been able to stab me... No offense but your logic escapes me.

You are much more likely to die at the hands of your own physician than you are with somebody else's gun. You are much more likely to die in a automobile accident than being shot by somebody else's gun. You are much more likely to die by slipping and falling in your own bathtub than you are by someone else's gun. Should we ban doctors, automobiles, and bathtubs?

So far so good - but please do not let this thread turn into an argument about guns. It will get locked.

"Post picks of your ukes at the table" is the topic...

Don't worry, Khrome. We never ate that at my house, either.
