Well, I did it. I ordered a custom Mike Periera Tenor Ukulele. I am having it made specially for my wedding on August 1, 2009. I am going to surprise my fiance by playing her a song, with 7 back-up ukulele players. The uke is all Curly Koa with a Slotted Headstock. It has ebony binding, ebony fretboard, ebony pin bridge, and ebony stringers in the 5 peice neck. I had a custom polynesian turtle tattoo inlay (My fiance loves sea turtles) made out of puau abalone by custominlay.com for the headstock in ebony also. I went with the Mi-Si pickup with a preamp. It also has a puau abalone rosette around the sound hole. Mike is putting the final finish coats on it this week and it should be strung up by the weekend. Hopefully it will be in my hands soon. I can't wait. Here are some pics of the build.

Thank you for posting all those pictures. It's really interesting to see how ukes are put together.

Congratulations on your new uke :D

Drool!

.

Very nice uke! Congrats!

And looking at those pics, I think its safe to say that pickup installation is a lot less tricky when you don't have to reach into the soundhole to do it in the dark. :p

Congrats on such a fine instrument, it is beautiful.

More importantly congrats on the upcoming wedding. I hope you have many years of happiness with your future wife.

Cost.

For those who asked about pricing. Base for an all koa tenor is $875.00. With all the custom work(headstock, pick-up, abalone rosetted, etc.) I payed Mike $1270.00 and CustomInlay $95.00 for a total of $1365.00. Not bad for a complete custom. I think Mike Periera is way over worked and under payed for his beautiful craftsmanship. Not to mention his custom service and photo catalogue of the uke build. But hey, I am not complaining.
:music:

Congratulations, on both the wedding and the beautiful ukulele! You've got me wondering....

What's the special song?

BTW; "Pix (or video), or it didn't happen!" ;)

this sexy uke makes me want to order a Mike Periera custom too (damn UAS):smileybounce:

Congrats Tiki for your wedding and this beautiful uke. I too have a all koa with a slotted headstock that Mike build for me 2 few months ago.

And all I can tell you, is that you won't be disapointed. It sounds very nice but you can improve the sound a lot by changing the strings even if stock it comes with Worth BT.... Well I always chat with Mike about strings that I'm trying on his ukes.

I already own 3 MP custom ukes and I seriously, I'm totally satisfy with each of them.

You shoud try next to get a spruce top with koa for sides and back... It's insane how the one that he build for me last year sounds like.

It has that snap and crisp that no other uke that I've own got...

Anyway....congrats once again!

Song Choice for the Wedding.

To answer the song choice question......1,2,3,4 by none other then The Plain White Tees. Of course covered by Aldrine. And yes I learned it here on UU. I actually have the other 7 guys learning from the Tutorial here on UU and the play along on Youtube. It is a simple song with the only 3 words that I need to say to my girl.
