So I am having friends over for BBQ on Saturday, and I want to learn maybe 10-20 new easy/moderate songs by hearth so that I don't need to look at the chords while I play :)

The little, contest sort of thing I'm gonna do then is:

You write in up to ten suggestions of summer tunes, that I can learn for the BBQ
I will pick a winner on Saturday, and within a few days I will make the winning song a YT video!

Not much of a contest but I though it would be fun, like a request contest

Summertime (The Gershwin song, not the one by the Jamies :p)
California Girls, or Surfin' USA, or pretty much any other easy Beach Boys
I Can See Clearly Now
Groovin'
Under the Boardwalk
Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay
Summertime Blues
Take it Easy
Jammin', or Stir it Up, or any other easy Bob Marley

  • While the Music is Playing (Dan Zanes)
  • Goodnight, Irene
  • Loch Lomond
  • Octopus's Garden
  • Yellow Submarine
  • Wander in the Summer Wind (Dan Zanes again)
  • This Message (Krabbers)
  • Sloop John B.
  • Puff the Magic Dragon
  • Hey Jude

An easy early favorite of mine:
Simple chords and lyrics
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight"

Me and Bobby McGee, I think it's 3 chords and the changes are pretty obvious (makes it easy to memorize). I don't know about your people, but my friends know all the words. Was one of the hits of my singalong. (Do yourself a favor, plan to memorize, but pack some kind of clip light) Have fun!

creep by radiohead - cause so many people know it and it's super easy to learn
inaudible melodies by jack johnson
jammin - bob marley

* summer in the city (joe cocker)
* all along the watchtower (bob dylan)
* free falling (tom petty)
* no woman no cry (bob marley) (there is a good and easy tab on dominators website)
* californication (red hot chilli peppers) (maybe not an easy one, but would be very cool, this song is ultimate summer-feeling)
* sitting on the dock of the bay (otis redding)
* ain't no sunshine (bill withers)
* oye como va (santana) if you want to keep it instrumental (i found tabs for this one I think on this website)
* paradise city (guns 'n roses) (easy chords and good for sing-alongs)
* and finally any song of the beach boys would indeed spice up your bbq-party big-time :)

I have figured out an instrumental version of "free falling" & "sitting on the dock of the bay" myself, check out my you-tube
